Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on, non-invasive therapeutic approach for balancing structures in our bodies and supporting our self-healing abilities. Our body’s natural tendency is to self-correct and rebalance to a healthier state and this therapy does just that.
HOW DOES CST WORK? As a Craniosacral Therapist I will tune-in to the subtle rhythm of your craniosacral rhythm (the motion of the cerebrospinal fluid) and evaluate how it reflects throughout your body. By using gentle, non-invasive techniques including pressure usually no greater than 5 grams, I will connect with your body’s natural self-healing processes; listening and evaluating your fluidity of motion in various parts of your system.
This aids improvement in the function of your central nervous system and prompts an unravelling of any constricted fascia and connective tissue surrounding muscles, organs, bones, brain, spinal cord and organs, enhancing your body’s immune system and functionality.
This method assists in the release of restrictions, perhaps from injury and trauma, boosts your immune system and encourages your body’s ability to restore itself back to health, thus improving the functioning and vitality of your whole body.
HISTORY: Craniosacral Therapy (CST) was developed by the osteopathic physician John Upledger from the USA in the 1970’s. Dr Upledger was assisting in a spinal surgery when he discovered the dural tube had a movement of its own. He carried on with research and clinical studies discovering what is called the craniosacral rhythm and the craniosacral system of which is comprised of membranes, bones and cerebrospinal fluid that nourishes, surrounds & protects the brain and spinal cord. This system directs and controls all of our body processes.
Craniosacral Therapy can resolve deep unhealthy compensations within your physiological system that can often affect your quality of life. It can address unresolved emotional issues which have been stored within tissue in your body. By following your patterns of expression within your tissue often emotions and memories are provoked taking you back to the origin of the dysfunction, enabling resolutions and reducing pain you are feeling in the area or in another part of your body.
